Tsirk Dobranotch

a klezmer circus

01.JPG

The world-famous klezmer band Dobranotch from St. Petersburg, known for their spectacular performances of traditional Eastern European Jewish music, have teamed up with acrobat Eliana Pliskin Jacobs and clown Sam Gurwitt to produce a klezmer circus! With stories of wandering and migration, acrobatics and aerials, clowning and mime, flying instruments and, of course, live klezmer music that will have you up out of your seat and dancing, the show celebrates resilience in the face of oppression. While the performance draws on traditions of Yiddish theater and humor, it deals with more serious themes of Jewish history in Europe and the present-day exile of some of the performers. As with many Jewish traditions, there is always a balance between joy and sadness, just as klezmer music harmoniously juxtaposes major and minor
