What kind of movie is "FlugBahn"?
A flying streetcar circles over Chemnitz and stops at the most beautiful and important places in the city. There are sketches, singing and lots of interesting facts about the local history. "Guest appearances" include Richard Tauber, Georgius Agricola, Hans Carl von Carlowitz and none other than the old Chancellor Bismarck.
Who is behind "FlugBahn"?
A motley crew of schoolchildren, trainees, amateur actors, music enthusiasts and pensioners. They all worked on the film on a voluntary basis. The project was led by a triumvirate consisting of theater educator Susann Herrmann-Jenkner, director and actor Stefan Schweninger and our media educator Sebastian Steger from the Chemnitz Filmwerkstatt.
How exactly was the movie made?
The idea was born in 2020, the year of the pandemic, to provide a remedy for the older generation who were trapped in isolation within their own four walls: They needed distraction, entertainment and diversion. The aim was to bring joy back into lonely homes, retirement homes, hospices and residential groups with a lot of humor and a connection to home. Ideally with an amusing movie about the old days: The idea for "Flugbahn" was born! A number of enthusiastic supporters were quickly found. Over many months, the film was shot, edited and animated until it was finally finished in 2022. It was funded as a micro-project of the Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
