By Jasmin Sarah Zamani and Richard Glöckner from the Eduard-von-Winterstein-Theater Annaberg-Buchholz.
His songs and lyrics are familiar to countless people - throughout the Ore Mountains and beyond the region's borders.
Anton Günther was born in Gottesgab and grew up between the forests of the Fichtelberg and Keilberg mountains, where he also found his final resting place. With his work, he created an unforgettable cultural monument to his 'Haamit'. His songs were written at a time of political and social upheaval, which had an unmistakable effect on him.
To mark the 85th anniversary of his death in 2022, we have embarked on a search for traces in the life of a man who shaped his homeland, but who was also to have a decisive influence on its image. The result is this evening, in which a fictional dialog with Anton Günther takes place and he himself has his say as a puppet. This allows the audience to engage with him about his life, his time and his work. He is asked questions about the meaning of homeland and tradition and what these terms can still mean today. And, of course, the joy of his songs and the humor are not neglected.
