Ágoston received his diploma in Hungarian Language, Literature and Aesthetics from Janus Pannonius University of Pécs in 1990 (thesis on Novalis' novel Heinrich von Ofterdingen) and initially worked as an editor of the weekly cultural program "Trialog" on Pécs Municipal Television (producing films on literary topics). Since 2000 he has been the host and organizer of several national conferences, literary readings and book launches. Since 2021 founder and main organizer of the PécsLIT Literature Festival. In 1999, he also started working as the editor-in-chief of Jelenkor magazine, which he still does today. His work has been honored with several awards, e.g. most recently with the "Kéri Piroska Prize" of the Hungarian Writers' Association for Literature Management (2023).
